MTS To Shutdown Operations In 10 Circles

MTS is now ready to shutdown operations in 10 circles. CDMA operator Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL) has announced Thursday. The company will participate in the spectrum auction which will be held next month. This operation will close after 30 days. This closing will effect around 22 lakh customers on its network.

"I would like to confirm our intention to participate in the upcoming spectrum auctions in March 2013.The go forward plan includes continuing with the Company's focus on its data centric-voice enabled strategy in select circles," SSTL President and CEO Vsevolod Rozanov said in a statement.

The company, which provides service under MTS brand name, said it has started the process of informing its customers in 10 circles Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, North East, Orissa and Punjab to switch to other telecom operators of their choice.

"SSTL is providing a 30 day time window to all its customers in the 10 circles to exhaust their balance and to port out to a telecom operator of their choice," it added.

"SSTL has a customer base of over 14 million, out of which less than 15 percent come from the impacted circles," the company said.

Samsung Is Ready To Launch Its First Tizen Based Smartphone In 2013

Samsung Engeering is ready to working in collaboration with NTT DoCoMo to launch a Tizen-based smartphone, according to reports in Yomiuri Shimbun. The smartphone will appear by next year.

Tizen is a linux-based open source operating system announced after the demise of MeeGo.  Before that Nokia has launched two MeeGo-based smartphones Nokia N9 and Nokia N950.  Tizen is an alternative operating system to iOS and Android. It is more open Android and HTML-5 by its makers. Tizen had released its 1.0 Larkspur SDK and source code in May 2012.

Earlier in 2012, we had also seen another off shoot of MeeGo being spun into operating system dubbed as Sailfish OS, which too is expected to debut in 2013. So overall, it looks like we might get some freshness in terms of operating system in the new year.
